  Greenfleet

Climate change and global warming are among today's most pressing environmental issues, brought about by increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Transport is Australia's fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Greenfleet is a non-profit organisation. Our program provides a simple way to reduce your car's impact on the environment. For $40 (tax deductible), Greenfleet will plant 17 native trees on your behalf. These trees will help to create a forest, and as they grow will absorb the greenhouse gases that your car produces in one year (based on 4.3 tonnes of CO2 for the average car*).

Science shows that 17 mixed species trees will not only absorb a car's greenhouse emissions, but will also help to tackle salinity, improve water quality and provide essential habitat for native species.

Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted more than 2 million trees on behalf of Australian motorists and fleets. These forests will not be harvested and will create an investment in rural Australia for future generations.

  "Clear The Air"

Marquette Turner continually explores ways of integrating environmentally sustainable practices and standards to ensure that we are minimising the impact of our business on the environment.

Our "Clear The Air" program was initiated in May 2007 and is continually evolving.

Our current strategies include:

CARBON OFFSET- in all of our travels we must seek to become totally carbon neutral, thus offsetting the carbon we produce. This will be achieved by contributing towards the Australian Greenhouse Office's Approved Greenhouse Friendly™ Abatement Projects.

RECYCLED PRINTING- in all of our printing we must seek to use recycled products at every opportunity, even if this is not necessarily the most commercially-viable option.

OUR MARKETING- we must take advantage of the increasing use and capabilities of the internet wherever possible. Bucking the real estate trend by moving away from the traditional print media will enable us to avoid using such non-recycled and wasteful products.

RECYCLE & LIMIT PACKAGING- we must recycle as many products as possible, and avoid products that use excessive packaging.

ENERGY SAVING METHODS- leading by example, Marquette Turner must also actively promote and energy saving strategies and encourage all of our clients to adopt environmentally friendly and cost-effective strategies in their properties (eg. energy-saving light globes).

"ENVIORNMENTALLY FRIENDLY" ACCREDITATION- we must work towards achieving "Environmentally Friendly" accreditation from the Federal Government.

  Election Recylcing Jitters

The upcoming Federal election is causing some vendor jitters in deciding when to sell. Vendors are troubled by the election date of November 24, which is a Saturday and real estate agents are doing all they can to avoid auctioning homes on that weekend. At Marquette Turner Estate Agents we have decided to delay all auctions to avoid the election weekend and we are running new sales campaigns well into December which is extremely rare. The election has resulted in a late "real estate Spring" with the usual Spring influx of new property being delayed until December or the new year.

The election wait has also allowed for me to personally consider what I might do on election day. With our Sydney Headquarters being in Crown Street, East Sydney we are positioned in the Federal seat of Wentworth which is currently held by Malcolm Turnbull for the Liberal Party. It just happens that Mr Turnbull is also the Federal Minister for the Environment so I would expect that he would be extremely active in ensuring that the environment is top priority in his electorate. We have nightly rubbish collections during the week and yet we don't have any recycling facilities for at the Marquette Turner Office. In fact all of our rubbish is collected, unsorted and taken away as if the environment was the last thing on Mr Turnbull's mind.

It is difficult to get political in any situation as both parties have positives and negatives however when such simple things are ignored by the Federal Minister for the Environment I cannot help but wonder what the best thing to do on election day will be? As a real estate agent and a Director of Marquette Turner Estate Agents I have always seen it as my responsibility to act in the best interests of the properties and clients I represent as well as the company I represent. It is of great concern that our Federal Minister for the Environment could miss something so simple which is only a couple of hundred metres from his office. If Wentworth falls to Labor then Mr Turnbull has only himself to blame - Marquette Turner is committed to a greener world and it is under our own initiative that we promote environmentally friendly ways to market, recycle and run our business.
